«The Witch» is a research project that aims to reflect on the cult of women in ancient cultures and its transformation throughout history.
Exploring artifacts of different nations, I wanted to feel and compare the archetype of a woman of the past with her image in my modern vision. Turning to archaic «Venuses» allowed me to see a picture of the past not only from the point of view of form, but also of material.I observed how the choice of material, clay, stone and bone, influenced the perception of the figure. And I also sought to reconstruct the simplicity and laconicism of lines that the international modernists of the 20th century used in their work.
In search of a medium to implement the project, I settled on copper, as it combines the shine of cold metal and the warmth of the color palette. It has unique properties: plasticity, which allows you to create complex shapes, and durability, which preserves its original beauty for centuries.
A woman is a creative force by nature. This project is a process of self-knowledge and subjective interpretation of the internal question to oneself and the viewer: «What would a modern Venus look like?»
